George Pratt Shultz was born in New York City, New York, USA. He is an American economist, politician, and businessman. He served as the United States Secretary of Labor from 1969 to 1970, as the director of the Office of Management and Budget from 1970 to 1972, as the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from 1972 to 1974, and as the U.S. Secretary of State from 1982 to 1989. Before entering politics, he was professor of economics at MIT and the University of Chicago, serving as Dean of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business from 1962 to 1969. He was an executive at Bechtel, Between 1974 and 1982. In 1942, he earned a B.A. degree in economics with a minor in public and international affairs at Princeton University. In 1949, he earned a Ph.D. in industrial economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
