William Arthur Dunkerley (John Oxenham) was born in Manchester, England. He was an English journalist, novelist and poet. He wrote under his own name, and also as John Oxenham for his poetry, hymn-writing, and novels. He used another pseudonym, Julian Ross, for journalism. He was a major contributor to Jerome K. Jerome's The Idler magazine. He wrote several books include: God's Prisoner, White Fire, Carette of Sark, Pearl of Pearl Island, Bees in Amber (poetry), Maid of the Mist (novel), A Maid of the Silver Sea (novel), The King's High Way (poetry), The Fiery Cross (poetry), High Altars, Selected Poems of John Oxenham, and Christ And The Third Wise Man.
