John Mondy Shimkus was born in Collinsville, Illinois, USA. He is an American Republican politician. He is the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 15th congressional district. He has served in the House since 1997. He earned a BS degree in General Engineering from the US Military Academy, West Point in 1980. He earned an MBA degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1997. He was elected as Madison County treasurer - the first Republican elected to a countywide post in 10 years. He married Karen Muth in 1987. They have three sons.
