George Michael Steinbrenner III was born in Rocky River, Ohio, USA. He was an American businessman and investor who was the principal owner and managing partner of Major League Baseball's New York Yankees. During Steinbrenner's 37-year ownership from 1973 to his death in July 2010, the longest in club history, the Yankees earned seven World Series titles and 11 pennants. He was also involved in the Great Lakes and Gulf Coast shipping industry. Known as a hands-on baseball executive, he earned the nickname "The Boss". He received his B.A. degree from Williams College in 1952. He earned his master's degree in physical education from The Ohio State University in 1955. He was awarded The Flying Wedge Award, one of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s highest honors.
