Gerald Norman "Jerry" Springer was born in Highgate tube station, London, England. He is a British-born American television presenter, Democratic mayor of Cincinnati (1977-1978), a former lawyer, and newsreader. He earned a BA degree in political science from Tulane University in 1965. He earned a JD degree from Northwestern University in 1968. He was a partner in the law firm of Grinker, Sudman & Springer from 1973 to 1985. After Kennedy's assassination, he joined the Cincinnati law firm of Frost & Jacobs, now Frost Brown Todd. He has hosted the tabloid talk show Jerry Springer since its debut in 1991 and debuted the Jerry Springer Podcast in 2015. He hosted America's Got Talent on NBC in the U.S. for two seasons (2006-2008), replacing Regis Philbin. In 1997, the Chicago-based NBC-owned station WMAQ-TV hired Springer to serve as a news commentator. He married Micki Velton in 1973 and had one daughter, Katie Springer. They divorced in 1994.
