Irwin Shaw was born in The Bronx, New York City, New York, USA. He was an American playwright, screenwriter and novelist. He earned a BA degree from Brooklyn College in 1934. He wrote several plays include: Bury the Dead, Quiet City, The Gentle People, Retreat to Pleasure, Sons and Soldiers, and Children From Their Games. He wrote several novels include: The Young Lions, The Troubled Air, Lucy Crown, Two Weeks in Another Town, Voices of a Summer Day, Rich Man, Poor Man, Evening in Byzantium, Nightwork, Beggarman, Thief, Bread Upon the Waters, and Acceptable Losses. He wrote several films include: The Big Game, Commandos Strike at Dawn, The Talk of the Town, Take One False Step, Easy Living, I Want You, Act of Love, Fire Down Below, Desire Under the Elms, This Angry Age, and The Big Gamble. He won a number of awards, including two O. Henry Awards, a National Institute of Arts and Letters grant, and three Playboy Awards.
