John McLaughlin, also known as Mahavishnu John McLaughlin was born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. He is an English guitarist and musician whose extremely loud, highly energetic, eclectic soloing made him one of the most popular and influential jazz-rock musicians. He began his career playing blues and rock in London in the early 1960s and went on to play free jazz with important British figures before moving to the United States in 1969. He works with many music groups (as guitarist), including Mahavishnu Orchestra, Shakti, and Remember Shakti. His albums list shown below: Extrapolation, Devotion, My Goal's Beyond, Electric Guitarist, Electric Dreams, Belo Horizonte, Music Spoken Here, Que Alegria, Time Remembered, After the Rain, The Promise, The Heart of Things, Thieves and Poets, Industrial Zen, Floating Point, To the One, Now Here This, and Black Light. He is a Grammy award winner and has been awarded multiple "Guitarist of the year" and "Best Jazz Guitarist" awards from magazines such as Down Beat and Guitar Player based on reader polls. McLaughlin's solo on the cut "Miles Beyond" from his album Live at Ronny Scott's won the 2018 Grammy Award for the Best Improvised Jazz Solo.
