John Albion Andrew was born in Windham, Massachusetts (now Windham, Maine), United States. He was an American lawyer and Republican politician. He served as the 25th Governor of Massachusetts from 1861-1866. He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He studied at Bowdoin College. After his graduation in 1837, he moved to Boston to study law under Henry H. Fuller. He was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1840, and began the practice of law.
