John Crawford Crosby was born in Sheffield, Massachusetts, USA. He was an American Democratic politician and lawyer. He graduated from Eastman Business College in Poughkeepsie, New York. He earned a Law degree from Boston University School of Law in Boston. He was admitted to the bar in 1882 and began practice in Pittsfield. He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1886-1887, and Massachusetts Senate from 1888-1889. He served as the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts's 12th district from 1891-1893. He was elected Mayor of Pittsfield, serving from 1894 to 1895. He was appointed justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in 1913, served on the court until his retirement in 1937.
