Sir Henry Morgan was born in Llanrhymny, Wales. He was a Welsh privateer, landowner and later, Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica. He was probably a member of a group of privateers led by Sir Christopher Myngs attacking cities and settlements on the Spanish Main. In 1663 he likely captained a ship within Myngs' fleet, when it attacked Santiago, Cuba, and was involved in the Sack of Campeche on the Yucatán Peninsula.
