Joseph Edward Cronin was born in San Francisco, California, USA. He was an American Major League Baseball shortstop and manager. He also served as president of the American League for 14 years. During a 20-year playing career, he played from 1926–1945 for three different teams, primarily for the Boston Red Sox. Cronin was a major league manager from 1933–1947. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1956.
