John Jay McCloy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He was an American lawyer, banker and Republican politician. He served as Assistant Secretary of War during World War II. After the war he served as president of the World Bank, U.S. High Commissioner for Germany, chairman of Chase Manhattan Bank, and chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations. He later became a prominent United States presidential adviser, served on the Warren Commission. He earned a BA degree from Amherst College in 1916. He earned his law degree from Harvard Law School, Harvard University in 1921. He practiced law in New York and Europe for the next twenty years.
