Erik Belton Evers Bruhn was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was a Danish ballet dancer. He began training with the Royal Danish Ballet when he was nine years old. He joined the company in 1947 and was promoted to soloist in 1949. To enrich his repertoire joined the American Ballet Theatre in New York City, where he danced regularly for next 9 years, although his home company continued to be the Royal Danish Ballet. In 1956 he finally joined the American Ballet Theatre. In 1967 he was appointed director of the Swedish Opera Ballet until 1972. He was associated with the National Ballet of Canada, first as assistant director and then as director from 1983 until his death in 1986.
