Ernest Frederick "Fritz" Hollings was born in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. He is an American politician. He served three terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1949 to 1954. He served as a Democratic Senator from South Carolina from 1966 to 2005, as well as the 106th Governor of South Carolina from 1959–1963 and the 77th Lieutenant Governor from 1955–1959. He graduated from The Citadel in 1942, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received an LL.B. from the University of South Carolina in 1947.
