Jane Meredith Mayer was born in New York City, New York, USA. She is an American investigative journalist who has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1995. She earned a BA degree from Yale University in 1977. She also studied at Oxford University. She joined The Wall Street Journal in 1982. She worked for it for 12 years. She served as a war correspondent and foreign correspondent for the Journal, where she reported on the bombing of the American barracks in Beirut, the Persian Gulf War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the last days of Communism in the former Soviet Union. She was nominated twice by the Journal for the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing. She also contributes to the New York Review of Books, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and the American Prospect. She has written several books include: Landslide(with Doyle McManus), Strange Justice(with Jill Abramson, Nominations: National Book Award for Nonfiction), The Dark Side(Awards: New York Times 10 Best Books of the Year, Goldsmith Book Prize for Trade, Ambassador Book Award for Current Affairs), and Dark Money(Nominations: National Book Critics Circle Award for General Nonfiction).
