James Patrick Hogan was born in London, England. He was a British science fiction novelist. He worked as a design engineer for several companies. He served as a sales engineer for Honeywell. In the 1970s he joined the Digital Equipment Corporation's Laboratory Data Processing Group. He wrote several novels include: Inherit the Stars, The Genesis Machine, The Gentle Giants of Ganymede, Thrice Upon a Time, Giants' Star, Voyage from Yesteryear, Code of the Lifemaker, The Proteus Operation, Entoverse, Realtime Interrupt, The Legend That Was Earth, and Mission to Minerva.
