Helen Prejean was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. She is an American Roman Catholic nun, a member of the Congregation of St. Joseph and a leading American advocate for the abolition of the death penalty. She received a B.A. degree in English and Education from St. Mary’s Dominican College in 1962. She earned an M.A. degree in religious education from Saint Paul University, Ottawa, Canada, in 1973. She has been the Religious Education Director at St. Frances Cabrini Parish in New Orleans. She has written several books include: The Death of Innocents and Dead Man Walking.
