James Knox Polk was born in Pineville, Mecklenberg County, North Carolina, USA. He was an American democratic politician. He was the 11th President of the United States from 1845–1849. He served as Governor of Tennessee from 1839-1841. He was Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Tennessee's 6th district from 1825-1833 and Tennessee's 9th district from 1833-1839. He previously served as the 13th Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1835-1839. He earned a BA degree from the University of North Carolina in 1818.
