Jacques Rivette was born in Rouen, France. He was a French film director, screenwriter and film critic most commonly associated with the French New Wave and the film magazine Cahiers du Cinéma. Inspired by Jean Cocteau to become a filmmaker, he shot his first short film at age twenty. He directed several films include: Paris Belongs to Us, The Nun, Mad Love, Out 1, Celine and Julie Go Boating, Duelle, Love on the Ground, Gang of Four, Top Secret, Who Knows?, The Duchess of Langeais, and Around a Small Mountain. He wrote several films include: The Nun, Out 1, Le Pont du Nord, and The Story of Marie and Julien.
