Edmund John Millington Synge was born in Rathfarnham, Dublin, Ireland. He was an Irish playwright. He was a key figure in the Irish Literary Revival and was one of the co-founders of the Abbey Theatre. He studied at Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, Trinity College in Dublin, and the University of Paris (Sorbonne). He wrote several plays include: In the Shadow of the Glen, Riders to the Sea, The Well of the Saints, The Playboy of the Western World, The Tinker's Wedding, and Deirdre of the Sorrows.
