John Richard Pilger was born in Sydney, Australia. He is an Australian journalist, documentary film maker, author and screenwriter based in the United Kingdom since 1962. He wrote a regular column for the New Statesman magazine from 1991 to 2014. He has won Britain's Journalist of the Year Award in 1967 and 1978. He worked for the Daily Telegraph, where he was a reporter, sports writer and sub-editor. He also worked for the Sydney Sunday Telegraph and Daily Mirror. He directed several documentary films include: The New Rulers of the World (with Alan Lowery), Breaking the Silence, Stealing a Nation, The War on Democracy, The War You Don't See, Utopia, and The Coming War On China. He has written several films include: Year Zero, The Secret Country, Death of a Nation, Vietnam: The Last Battle, Inside Burma, Welcome to Australia, Paying the Price, The New Rulers of the World, Breaking the Silence, Palestine Is Still the Issue, Stealing a Nation, The War on Democracy, The War You Don't See, and The Coming War On China. He has written several books include: A Secret Country, Hidden agendas, The New Rulers of the World, and Freedom Next Time.
