Esther Louise Forbes was born in Westborough, Massachusetts, USA. She was an American novelist, historian, and children's writer. Her first novel, O Genteel Lady! was published in 1926. In 1928 A Mirror for Witches was published. In 1935 Miss Marvel, in 1937 Paradise and in 1938 The General's Lady were published. She was the author of Paul Revere and the World He Lived In awarded the Pulitzer Prize for history in 1943, and Johnny Tremain, young adult novel, awarded the Newbery Medal in 1944. She wrote other books include: America's Paul Revere, The Boston Book, The Running of the Tide, and Rainbow on the Road.
