Sir Edward Richard George Heath was born in Broadstairs, Kent, England. He was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1970 to 1974 and Leader of the Conservative Party from 1965 to 1975. He studied at Oxford University and served in the Second World War. He graduated with a Second Class Honours BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics in 1939. He was first elected to Parliament in 1950 for Bexley, and was the Chief Whip from 1955 to 1959. Outside politics, Heath was a world-class yachtsman and a talented musician.
