Joseph Alberto "Joey" Santiago was born in Manila, Philippines. He is a Filipino-born American guitarist and composer. He is best known as the lead guitarist for the American alternative rock band the Pixies (1986-1993). He also contributed to albums by Charles Douglas and former Pixies band-mate Frank Black. He has described his guitar technique as "angular and bent". He studied at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
