Daniel Mannix Petrie was born in Glace Bay, Canada. He was a Canadian television and film director. His signature film A Raisin in the Sun, was nominated for the Palme d'Or award at the Cannes Film Festival. He also directed Buster and Billie; the Academy Award-nominated Resurrection; Fort Apache, The Bronx; and Cocoon: The Return.
