John Michael Hayes was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. He was an American screenwriter, crafted the screenplays for some of director Alfred Hitchcock’s best-loved films, notably Rear Window, for which Hayes garnered an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America as well as an Academy Award nomination, To Catch a Thief, The Trouble with Harry, and The Man Who Knew Too Much. He wrote other films include: Thunder Bay, Torch Song, Peyton Place, The Matchmaker, BUtterfield 8, The Children's Hour, The Chalk Garden, Harlow, Nevada Smith, Judith, and Iron Will.
