Fred Thomas Saberhagen was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was an American novelist and writer who most famous for his Berserker series of science fiction short stories and novels. He wrote several novels include: The Golden People, The Lost Swords, The face of Apollo, and Berserker Kill. "Fortress Ship", his first "Berserker" short shory, was published in 1963.
