George Victor Voinovich was born in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He was an American Republican politician and lawyer. He earned a B.A. degree in government from Ohio University in 1958 and received a Law degree from the Moritz College of Law at the Ohio State University in 1961. He spent more than 46 years in public service – first as assistant attorney general of Ohio in 1963. He served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1967-1971. He served as the 54th Mayor of Cleveland from 1980 to 1989, as the 65th Governor of Ohio from 1991 to 1998, and as a United States Senator from 1999 to 2011. He served as chairman of the National Governors Association from 1997-1998 and Chair of the Senate Ethics Committee from 2003-2007.
