John Vinocur was born in New York City, New York, USA. He is an American journalist. He is a Paris-based columnist for the global edition of The Wall Street Journal. Previously he was executive editor of the International Herald Tribune, and also served as the metropolitan editor at The New York Times. He earned a BA degree from Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio. In 1986, he was awarded the George Polk Award for Magazine Reporting. In June 2008, he was awarded the French Légion d'Honneur by the President of France Nicolas Sarkozy.
