Francesco Borromini, byname of Francesco Castelli was born in Bissone, Ticino, Old Swiss Confederacy. He was a swiss-born Italian architect who, with his contemporaries Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Pietro da Cortona, was a leading figure in the emergence of Roman Baroque architecture. His major architectural works include: San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, Oratory of Saint Phillip Neri, Sant' Ivo alla Sapienza, and Sant'Agnese in Agone.
