Immanuel Velikovsky was born in Vitebsk, Russia (now in Belarus). He was an American author and psychiatrist best known as the author of a number of controversial books reinterpreting the events of ancient history. He studied at Moscow State University and the University of Edinburgh. He received a medical degree from the University of Moscow in 1921. Earlier, he played a role in the founding of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. from 1924 to 1939, he practising medicine in the fields of general practice, psychiatry and psychoanalysis in Palestine. He wrote several books include: Worlds in Collision, Ages in Chaos, Earth in Upheaval, Oedipus and Akhnaton, Peoples of the Sea, Rameses II and his Time, Mankind in Amnesia, and Stargazers and Gravediggers.
