John William Cummings, known professionally as Johnny Ramone was born in New York, USA. He was an American guitarist for the punk rock band the Ramones. He was a founding member of the band, and remained a member throughout the band's entire career. He was known for his fast, high-energy guitar playing. His style consisted of rapid downstrokes, power chords, and barre chord shapes. His guitar work on songs such as “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “Judy Is a Punk,” and “I Wanna Be Sedated” helped define the New York punk sound, and the band’s appearance in director Roger Corman’s Rock ’n’ Roll High School spawned waves of imitators in leather jackets and ripped jeans. In 2003, he appeared on Time's "The 10 Greatest Electric-Guitar Players".
