John Gresham Machen was born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He was an American Presbyterian theologian and fundamentalist leader. He studied at Johns Hopkins University and Princeton Theological Seminary. He earned an MA degree in Philosophy from Princeton University. He criticized liberal Protestantism as unbiblical and unhistorical in his Christianity and Liberalism and struggled to preserve the conservative character of the Princeton Theological Seminary. He was a major theological voice in support of conservative Christianity.
