Georg Trakl was born in Salzburg, Austria. He was an Austrian poet. He is considered one of the most important Austrian Expressionists. He is perhaps best known for his poem "Grodek", which he wrote shortly before he died of a cocaine overdose. He matriculated in 1897 at the Salzburg Staatsgymnasium, where he studied Latin, Greek, and mathematics. In 1908, he moved to Vienna to study pharmacy, and became acquainted with some local artists who helped him publish some of his poems. He served as a pharmacist at a hospital in Innsbruck. He wrote several books include: Poems and Prose, Autumn sonata, Gedichte, and Song of the West.
