Jan Tinbergen was born in The Hague, Netherlands. He was a Dutch economist. He was awarded the first Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel in 1969, which he shared with Ragnar Frisch for having developed and applied dynamic models for the analysis of economic processes. He received his PhD in Physics from the University of Leiden in 1929. He served as associate professor of mathematics and statistics at The Netherlands School of Economics, Rotterdam from 1933-1973. He wrote several books include: Business Cycles in the USA, 1919-32, Business Cycles in the UK, 1870-1914, On the Theory of Economic Policy, Centralization and Decentralization in Economic Policy, and Economic Policy: Principles and Design.
