James Wyatt was born in Weeford, Staffordshire, England. He was an English architect, a rival of Robert Adam in the neoclassical style and neo-Gothic style. In Venice, he studied with Antonio Visentini as an architectural draughtsman and painter. His selected edifices include: Pantheon, London; Radcliffe Observatory, Oxford; Liverpool Town Hall, Liverpool; Abbeyleix House, Ireland; Gaddesden Place, Hertfordshire; Grove House, Roehampton; Ammerdown House, Kilmersdon; Norris Castle, Isle of Wight; Pennsylvania Castle, Dorset; Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire; Elvaston Castle, Derbyshire; Broadway Tower, Worcestershire; Plas Newydd, Anglesey; and Cassiobury House, Hertfordshire.
