Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett was born in London, England. He was an English-Irish novelist, poet, and playwright, notable for his work, mostly in fantasy, published under the name Lord Dunsany. He published short stories, as well as successful plays, poetry, novels and essays. He received an honorary doctorate from Trinity College, Dublin. Dunsany's first novel, Don Rodriguez: Chronicles of Shadow Valley, was published in 1922. In 1924, he published his second novel, The King of Elfland's Daughter. He was chess and pistol-shooting champion of Ireland.
