Arne Duncan is an American education administrator who has been United States Secretary of Education since 2009. Duncan previously served as CEO of the Chicago Public Schools. Duncan attended the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools and later Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in sociology. Duncan was appointed U.S. Secretary of Education by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate on January 20, 2009.
