John Drinkwater was born in Leytonstone, England. He was an English poet and playwright. He was a successful promoter of repertory theatre in England and the author of popular chronicle dramas. He published several volumes of verse, critical studies, and several historical plays, of which Abraham Lincoln was produced with great success both in London and in the U.S. He wrote several poems include: A Town Window, Of Greatham, We Willed It Not, Deer, The Carver In Stone, Mamble, and The Fires Of God.
