Helen Amelia Thomas was born in Winchester, Kentucky, USA. She was an American author, journalist, member of the White House press corps and opinion columnist. In 1942, she earned a bachelor's degree in English from Wayne University, Detroit. She was a columnist for Hearst Newspapers from 2000 to 2010, writing on national affairs and the White House. She was the first female officer of the National Press Club, the first female member and president of the White House Correspondents' Association and the first female member of the Gridiron Club. She wrote several books include: Front Row at the White House, Thanks for the Memories, Mr. President, Caryl Phillips, Watchdogs of Democracy?, The Great White House Breakout, Listen Up, Mr. President, Life with Rosie, and The Body and Everyday Life.
