Horace Gray was born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. He was an American judge who ultimately served on the United States Supreme Court from 1881-1902. He served as Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court from 1873-1882. He served as Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court from 1864-1873. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1866. He studied law at Harvard Law School, and entered the bar in 1851.
