Joan Blades was born in Berkeley, California, USA. She is an American businesswoman, political activist and author. In 1987, she and her husband Wes Boyd co-founded Berkeley Systems, a software company known for marketing the After Dark screensaver and the You Don't Know Jack trivia game. They founded the liberal political group MoveOn.org. In 2011, she co-founded Living Room Conversations in an effort to bring both sides of the political spectrum together to discuss individual issues in a comfortable environment. She earned a BA degree in History from the University of California at Berkeley in 1977 and her law degree from Golden Gate University School of Law. She has written several books include: The Divorce Book (co-wrote), Family Mediation, Mediate Your Divorce, The Motherhood Manifesto (with Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner), and The Custom‑Fit Workplace (with Nanette Fondas).
