Daniel Ken "Dan" Inouye was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was an American politician. He was a United States Senator from Hawaii from 1963 to 2012. He was a member of the Democratic Party. He also served as chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations. He was elected to Hawaii's territorial House of Representatives in 1953. Inouye was the first Japanese American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and later the first in the U.S. Senate. During the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Inouye served as a medical volunteer.
