Conrad Black was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He is a Canadian-born British former newspaper publisher, author, lawyer, columnist and investor. He is a non-affiliated life peer and a convicted felon in the United States for fraud. He completed a law degree at Université Laval and in 1973 completed a Master of Arts degree in History at McGill University. In 1966, Black bought his first newspaper, the Eastern Townships Advertiser in Quebec. He is the author of biographies of Maurice Duplessis, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Richard Nixon. Black is the former head of the Argus and Hollinger corporate groups, London’s Telegraph newspapers, and Canada’s National Post. He has been a member of the British House of Lords since 2001.
