He served as Chair of the Senate Energy Committee from 2007-2013. He was Attorney General of New Mexico from 1979 to 1983. He earned a BA degree in government from Harvard University in 1965. He earned an LLB degree from Stanford Law School in 1968. He married to Anne Kovacovich. They have one son.
