If a work of art is to be truly immortal, it must pass quite beyond the limits of the human world, without any sign of common sense and logic. In this way the work will draw nearer to dream and to the mind of a child.
Giorgio de Chirico Quotes
I believe, however, that such abnormal moments can be found in everyone, and it is all the more fortunate when they occur in individuals with creative talent or with clairvoyant powers.

Giorgio de Chirico was born in Volos, Greece. He was an Italian painter. He entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he studied under Max Klinger. In the years before World War I, he founded the scuola metafisica art movement, which profoundly influenced the surrealists. After 1919, he became interested in traditional painting techniques, and worked in a neoclassical or neo-Baroque style, while frequently revisiting the metaphysical themes of his earlier work. He painted the first of his 'Metaphysical Town Square' series, The Enigma of an Autumn Afternoon. He also painted The Enigma of the Oracle while in Florence. During 1913 he exhibited paintings at the Salon des Indépendants and Salon d’Automne; his work was noticed by Pablo Picasso and Guillaume Apollinaire, and he sold his first painting, The Red Tower. In 1974 he was elected to the French Académie des Beaux-Arts.
