John Sharp Williams was born in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. He was an American Democratic politician. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Mississippi's 5th congressional district from 1893-1903, and Mississippi's 8th congressional district from 1903-1909. He served as the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives from 1903 to 1908. He served as the United States Senator from Mississippi from 1911-1923. He studied at the University of the South, the University of Virginia, and Heidelberg University, Germany. He earned a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
