Jim Dine was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. He is an American painter, graphic artist and sculptor who emerged during the Pop art period as an innovative creator of works that combine the painted canvas with ordinary objects of daily life. His persistent themes included those of personal identity, memory, and the body. He studied at the University of Cincinnati, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School, and The Art Academy of Cincinnati. He earned a BFA degree from Ohio University in 1957. In 1983, he was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate member, and became a full Academician in 1994.
