Ernest James Istook Jr. was born in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. He is an American politician and lawyer. He is a former Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Oklahoma's 5th congressional district. Currently, he is a Distinguished Fellow at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., and also a talk radio host. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas in 1971. He received a law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1976. After graduation, he established his own law firm, and practiced law for 15 years.
