Jacob Stewart Hacker was born in Eugene, Oregon, USA. He is an American professor and author. He is the Director of the Institution for Social and Policy Studies and Stanley B. Resor Professor of Political Science at Yale University. Hacker has written works on social policy, health care reform, and economic insecurity in the United States. He graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Social Studies from Harvard University in 1994. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University in 2000. He is married to Oona A. Hathaway, a Professor of Law at Yale University. He has written several books include: The Road to Nowhere, The Divided Welfare State, Off Center, The Great Risk Shift, Winner-Take-All Politics(with Paul Pierson), and American Amnesia(with Paul Pierson).
